Here we go again :D

But this time it really is beyond belief and proof some raggies moan for the sake of it ................

Alright I slightly misjudged the wind strength and had to go a little faster through the marina fairway than normal but I was shocked when a woman grumbled at my speed as I was in astern

Well - 15 knots is a bit quick you know ...

Perhaps it is done to upset us, if it is then it works very well. I have experienced this twice this year (going forward I'll admit) and both times I was in a queue with sailing boats fore and aft and shouted at whilst the other boats were ignored. One time we were exiting Chi Harbour and a Guy (moored to a bouy off HISC sailing club) used the most unpleasant string of expletives I have heard in a long time and we had youngish children aboard. It was a Bavaria (36ish). If you tie up to a channel buoy in such a busy thoroughfare, surely you can expect a little wake to affect you. I felt like turning back and T boning the Bstrd. Its hard to swear with a mouth full of salt water.

Do you think they are messing about or seriously having a go

I've convinced myself to believe that a small minority simply see this type of behaviour as "Sport", expecting to be held in higher esteem by their peers, friends and on-lookers. Thankfully, there are many more boaters that do not leave home expecting to lock horns with everyone careless enough to invade THEIR water, land or sky. If one shouts there will always be others to join in which condones the action taken.

I'd have thought a couple of donuts alongside would have been sufficient to dispense a little salt water! :D

On a more serious note, it isn't actually speed that is a problem, but wash. In most cases speed is just used as a very blunt way of reducing wash.

I imagine going in reverse kicks up a lot more wash than forward for the same speed.

That would be my guess as to why someone might have said something.

(BTW raggies are just as guilty of producing too much wash as well - you only have to see the racers ploughing into Hamble in their race to the bar)

It's OK they were Raggies on shore on a picnic, so it doesn't count.....

I'm out of here.....

Over 55, Forgotton but not gone !!

best avatar phrase i have seen in a long while - made me laugh and wish i had thought of it.Sorry for drift just couldnt resist.

back to thread IMO there are two extremes people who are professional moaners about nothing and professional buffoons who dont give a flying .. about others - always have and always will be.

I must agree with you, our little tug seems to make quite a wash so up the Hamble I do tend to stick to 5knots, if am in a hurry then 5.5knots. 6knots and it is a little embarrassing. However I find it odd that the only boats that overtake, apart from the club launches, (at around 7knots making a huge wash) are raggies that seem unable to operate their boats at anything below full throttle...

...oh and Ribs... a few weeks back I found myself shouting at a couple in a rib casually proceeding up the Hamble past mercury at around 8/9knots making a tidal wave nearly throwing me & daughter out of our little dinghy!

Could it be the 'Three short blasts' you gave her that initiated the complaint?
