Slipways

Just another random question, are all of the Thames public slipways owned and maitained by the EA , am thinking about Whitchurch in particular. Are they a public right of way / right to launch ? what happens if people park their cars blocking them ?

Do you mean the one just over the Toll bridge or the one Pangbourne side by the doctors Surgery,Thinking you mean the one by the Toll bridge where the cars from Toll house can block the slip ,Ask them to move i have not sure of the legality of it though but have always understood it to be a public slipway.
Most of the public slipways suffer with lack of parking around them not always helped in the way some people leave there trailers cars after launching Steve.

As a rule of thumb if the road leading to a Slip is public, then so is the Slip. The Slipway at the end of Ferry Lane, South Stoke is owned by the village. Contrary to what the Parish Council thought when they built it, there is a public right to use it.
If a public slipway is obstructed then an offence is being committed in much the same way as any obstruction on a highway. The Police can issue a ticket and even have the vehicle towed away.
As a matter of interest the South Stoke Slipway is only suitable for smallish boats, speed boats, dinghies and the like. It is however of a high standard but parking is a problem. I have on occasion had the Old Bill out to deal with vehicles that have blocked my gate.

Yes , it is the one by the toll booth that I am thinking of. I was talking to some people who are involved in the Toll Freeze protest group who are angry at the price rise to 40p and it came up about the slipway as the bridge people seem to think its theirs and can block it as they like. I don`t use it very often, but its a pain to get there with a trailer and have to mess around getting them to move their cars.

Good evening forum members...............can I add an item here? what about the slipway beside the row boat hire place in Henley t/c ? I hope the ice cream man there gives some of his profit to the EA and where on earth would you leave your trailer??

You must mean the one on the offside (RHS going up), about 200yds below the bridge?
Using it would be a challenge, the approach is angled away from the direction of travel, unless one has an amphibious vehicle!
It's a very busy road, so trying to reverse round 245 deg is difficult and probably requires a banksman.

OK if you've got a 4X4 with a ball hitch on the front.

Have to say i found them easy enough to deal with but having launched there you then have the nightmare of where to leave the trailor as with many slipways and the car more often than not turns out to be whoever is in the toll both that day .
Seldom use that one now as i have to cross the bridge to get to it and 40p to find out i have to get cars moved aint my idea of fun.
Whenever using the slip by byron`s i make sure not to block his gate as his reputation precedes him lol steve.
