Slipper launch

Well ive got a 20 odd foot space at the back of my workshop spare ( when ive cleared the rubbish )
Ive got all the stuff to roof it over just havnt had the time .
I already have a supplier for the sp115 epoxy laminating system for the deck , have my contacts for the marine ply too . Just some nice timber for the deck and we are sorted .

Re: Escort Engine

Just checked my stock of timber and i think ive got enough American white oak to cover the basic frame.
From looking at the site Barry gave i think ill need 40m of 100 x 50 , 32m of 50 x25 and 60m of 75x12 .
Just gotta work out what i need in ply to cover it and then theres the deck .
Anyone know if American white oak is good for this type of thing ?

Re: Escort Engine

Crikey, you're really serious about this, aren't you? Well, if you want to go ahead, I'll be happy to put in some tea-making time, and hopefully my varnishing will be up to scratch by the time the brightwork becomes an issue...

Re: Escort Engine

If your really serious, and I mean serious about this, and want to go ahead, I'll split the costs/work load with you. Obviously your be the skill behind the chippying side of things. I'll supply the muscle and the stitch and glue stuff. Along with the spraying, engine and upholstery.

You've got my number. I'm not totally green at boat building.

Re: Escort Engine

Best buy the plans then eh . I think we will take a look at those first as i cant see the boat builder letting pictures of a compleate structure be taken .
I still dont think it will be hard to do on the wood part and with help on the other parts ...... Henley next year on the forum slipper ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Is somebody taking notes?

Had a long chat with Barry this morning about it and how possible it would be , we have the space , we have the skill , we have most of the timber and with a few adjustments an inboard . But what do we do with it after its done ? If the mags get involved what will they want out of it ?
Do we build it to give away to a lucky reader ....I think not !

They are mostly constructed of marine ply below the water line and mahogany above. This said, if they are on the market they are mostly constructed of rotten wood and have a habit of sinking..

I've got a GRP copy of the classic Andrews 25' Slipper and can put you in touch with the man with the moulds if you are interested. Otherwise have a look at www.slipperlaunch.com for a month-by-month home build.

My brother used to live on that neck of the river and had a nice old Vedette engined boat called "Trout". Came with the house and was just the job for visiting the Waterside or across the river for a pint. I remember going to very classy party where the bank was all lit up and "chaps" were employed to take ones lines and help the Memsahibs ashore.

Fancy a restoration project? There`s one in the front garden of a house in Grove Hill,Coulsdon, Surrey, near the golf clubhouse. It`s been there for years under a tarpaulin and expect it will eventually rot away unless someone saves it.
