Slightly Scary D4-260 PCU Failure

So it turns out it doesn't exactly need "programming to the boat" once programmed at the factory, there is an auto-configuration that can be performed that discovers the units on the network.
But having done that, things need recalibrating, e.g. trim gauges.
Either way, I am happy that someone that knew what they were doing did that.

Many Thanks to Golden Arrow Marine at Port Solent for sorting it all out quickly - they even fixed my dodgy fuel gauge that had been annoying me for months.

Here's a very boring video:

A D4-260 with a new PCU.
No alarms and no surprises.
No electrical smoke.
No shouting.

@SC35 my PCU failed as well but without being toasted, it essentially developed a intermittent failure which would not allow to start but after 2 minutes the failure code is gone and engine was able to start again. In short, needed a swap and factory programming as you mentioned and all was good to go again. After doing some online research there seem quite some people having issues with these PCUs. Have you been changing the 2nd one in the meantime as well ?

2nd one seems happy enough.
Mrs SC35 asked why I don't keep spare PCUs on the boat 🤠

SC35 Do you maybe still have old PCU unit? where are you located? I am interested in it for research and analyzing.. I have opened one of my PCU units.. The owner quickly turned the ingition few times and it developed the trim sensor issue. When lifting/lowering the trim you could see the right values for a moment, but when you released the button it showed some large number. Then after few months the owner did it again, quickly toggled the ignition again and EVC system reported an error.. PCU went off.. I got it in my hands and opened the case and removed the poting. I can see the CAN is TX is working, but must check with osciloscope if CAN RX is good.. The easiest would be if CAN transciever is bad.. But I'm afraid there could be corruption in the eeprom. So if you still have the unit i could probably try to read the eeprom of it and flash my unit to see if anything changes. So for anyone. I am interested in broken PCU units. Send a message if you have one.. If you're located in europe its a win-win

Recently helped a SC to get home after one leg refused to go down.
Simple temp solution 12v applied directly to leg motor.
Sorted after return but pretty sure it was not the PCB this time which had only recenty been replaced when the original unit died.
