I'm pondering a sliding outboard bracket. The boat has a 4hp outboard in a well. I want to be able to raise the outboard so that it comes out of the water when the boat is moored.

Raising the motor when sailing would be a bonus but I fear it will get in the way of tiller so have discounted this.

The motor will need to lift vertically just enough to clear the water, there is no room for tilting. I have found this on the internet but it looks more like a design exercise than reality and would probably cost more than the boat.

Does such a thing exist?

The old Alacrity and some Jaguars had sliding brackets on the transom ... looked just like draw runners ....

My Alacrity .... Nothing fancy at all. Basically two U channels of stainless with flange to mount on boat. Engine was on a plywood block with two stainless L brackets that slid up / down the U channels. Simple pin each side into holes in U channel to set motor height ...

Sorry photo cuts lower part off ... but you can just make out the two 'runners' with the Seagull ...

No need for any tackle or additions ... a 4hp would be fine to lift by hand

Thanks, I need to do some measuring, things are pretty tight in the well and the lift will need to 100% vertical. I might make a dummy from ply and see where I get to.

The Horizon 23 outboard bracket is a slide and tilt mechanism, very clever, but needs a big , long well as the outboard lies flat when raised; you say it can’t tilt?
The Hunter 26/27 had outboard in well with rig to raise it. See attachment. If it’s a small out board you don’t need a complex pulley run tho’.
