I have just installed a SP55S2i but, unfortunately, initially connected it up with reverse polarity (D'oh!) I have now corrected this but the thruster does not work. Is it likely that it has been damaged by the reverse polarity, in particular, the electronic control unit (a 6 1229) ? Any help much appreciated.

The bow thruster itself shouldn't be damaged by reverese polarity. You can test it by disconnecting the control panel and connecting the positive (red wire) on the plug to either the port or starboard wires (blue or grey wires).
Assuming all is well the controller may be defunct.

Is it even possible to do this?? on the thruster there is a large cardboard notice telling you the polarity of the stud the notice is hanging off !

The motor is DC so it doesn't matter what direction you connect it though maybe you have blown the relay used to switch the positive to each side of the motor?? test the motor direct then test the relay.

Be sure that the relay is actually grounded as it won't operate without a control wire for positive and negative.

What control are you using? My experience of these thrusters is that whatever one you use, they have a four way plug on the end (red, black, blue & grey) & a single plug (yellow) - the four way provides the positive, negative and the two direction wires to/from the control, and the yellow is for switching a safety switch in what we always call 'the big red button' box! If your using the latter fuse holder/big red button, you will need to connect the yellow wire up.

Has the control panel got power to it? Lights on etc?

If you have a problem you could contact 'Sleipner' direct. They will be happy to help. They are in Norway but they do speak English.
