Hi all

I'm looking to take a weeks skippered charter in the Dodecanese next September. Ideally I'd like to hire an owner operated (right term?) sort of boat- this will actually be for our honeymoon but I'd like to get some tuition as well. I understand that this is often referred to as second tier chartering. Does anyone know of a suitable yacht? Internet searches only seem to bring up the big companies.

I did find a couple chartering a Halberg Rassey 38 north of bodrum but they wont go on out to the islands any more due to border difficulties. They were charging around 1,500 euros for the whole boat, skipper and hostess which seems much more reasonable than anything else I can find. The best I can find for a smaller boat and skipper around the dodecanese is around 2,000 euros for the week which is doable but just doesnt look as good as the Halberg Rassey.

Any help is much appreciated- thanks in advance.

Hi Cameron

I'll see what I can find for you. We offer skippered charter but in the Saronic and Peloponnese area. However, know lots of boats and skippers all over Greece. What dates and what size yacht are you after? Do you need a hostess as well? Do you have any sailing experience?

The HR sounds a bit dodgy to me. It was a bit too cheap - was it a genuine charter yacht or just a couple trying to put some pennies into their private cruising account? What flag was the yacht?

/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifThe reason they may have been cheap is that they didn't carry any insurance for guests, or have any safety inspections or annual checks of liferafts, fire extinguishers etc etc. A major reason yachts are expensive to charter is that it costs a lot to keep them up to safety standards and to comply with all the legislation.

If you send me details of what you want to melody@sailvalentine.com I'll see if I can pass you on to someone suitable.

Cheers
