good morning all and yet another Q from me...
slowly finishing with the lazarette cleanup/scrapping/painting and I remembered that I wanted to relocate a skinfitting which is currently between stbrd shaft exiting in the water and p-bracket and 80mm offset towards the keel. Actually more towards the shaft than p-bracket...
Now, first Q is: is that acceptable placement for a skinfitting? Was originally for the genny intake (actually sits UNDER the genny, difficult to access, not enough space to get a seacock straight on top of the skinfitting, no chance of fitting a strainer there either. Genny is currently served from a skinfitting next to the engine intakes so nicely organized together with strainers and easily accessible.
Second Q is that since I want to have a pickup point for my watermaker which is going to be placed in the lazarette, I'd rather have an easily accessible skinfitting further aft which means we are getting in the propeller area which I guess is no good at all. So is it good practice to have skinfittings back there?
Would it be acceptable/OK to have a skinfitting in the same place but 500mm aft so around 200mm in front of the p-bracket? Area is solid and well reinforced around there.
Could go slightly silly and fit it on the transom just above the keel, should be safe and easily accessible (but never seen it done!) Further it's unlikely I'll be able to use the watermaker underway if I place it there.
Or could just buy a longer wire reinforced hose and Y off the genny seacock and be done with (although watermaker installation suggest that a separate intake is used JUST for the watermaker, and I'm not keen on long pipe runs in general).
The following two pics show the area in question (crappy pics from the first viewing complete with flaking antifoul
)
opinions appreciated!
cheers
