Since 1930's Basal Cell has been
treated with Mohs surgery
...
.
Had a Morphoeic basal cell carcinoma removed last year under MOHS, MOHS is not widely available in the UK on the NHS or privately; only two hospitals seemed to do it in East Anglia, The Norfolk and Norwich and Addenbrookes. From what I could work out it's only used for the Morphoeic type because that has ill defined boundaries and mohs offers the best results.
Symptoms were a small waxy scar about 1/4" long in middle of my forehead, they took a 20mm x 30mm chunk out. To repair it they then pulled the skin back together like a face lift, I've no wrinkles now and a perm boxtox effect where nerves were damaged ( which I was warned about before the procedure). However unlike facelift where they put the scars behind your ears, mine is in the middle of my forehead. Hey ho it adds character I guess.
However Basel Cell Carcinomas are not generally life threatening so it took about 3 months after biopsy to get it sorted, I had the biopsy privately then was told I would have to go to a London hospital for MOHS, didn't fancy that and switched to NHS after researching the various surgeons.
And how did I know it needed treating? well my dentist spotted it. I had it about two years before that.
