It's interesting that no one has mentioned or suggested setting the guard zone alarm on a radar, along with any other 'backstop' timer.
Doesn't anyone trust them?
I've found mine can pick up a boat sometimes before I can get a visual.

My appologies - I wasnt meaning to imply that I slept for 15 mins! At an average closing speed of 20 knots (14knots cargo+6 of mine) that would be 5 miles.

I also set a guard zone from about 3 to 8 miles out (dependent on vis - but then sleep isnt optional in fog!)

Eyes closed = Zero viz, fog or not!
