Single crimp ratcheting tool for heat seal connectors

That wouldn't make a very good electrical connection unless they were the solder type. Solder can create a stiff wire which is liable to fracture if subject to vibration.

AMP recommend http://www.te.com/catalog/cinf/en/c/118/2071?BML=10576,17698,17703&RQS= their AD 1522-1 crimping tool which is perhaps available on ebay.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAYCHEM-TYCO-CRIMP-TOOL-AD-1522-DURASEAL-CRIMPS-/290593895825

My AMP crimping tool is just a plain yellow handled one, many years old now. The jaws are rounded off so insulation is not readily damaged, but they do take a lot of Garth like squeezing sometimes so the ratchet tool is presumably worthwhile for a lot of terminals.

I have learnt a lot

Although I qualified as an electrician many years ago, one never stops learning.

I have used crimp terminations on many occasions and also used heat-shrink tube and mouldings on a number of occasions BUT I have never used heat-shrink crimp terminations.

I can now see why Boo2 has been having problems getting the right tool for the job - because they are comparatively rare in the UK.

It would appear 2Tizwoz has found the right tool at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAYCHEM-TYCO-CRIMP-TOOL-AD-1522-DURASEAL-CRIMPS-/290593895825?clk_rvr_id=260626484095&afsrc=1#ht_500wt_922 it seems to be about half the price of a new one from RS and is available now (RS extended range, ie not in stock).

This forum is a mine of information.
