I have a Simrad TP22 tillerpilot. Worked perfectly before lunch. Plugged back in after lunch and instead of steering a course it alternates between hard to stbd and hard to port. Good if trying to avoid submarine attack, less than ideal if sailing!
Will contact customer support once I have the serial number but wondering if anyone had experienced (and hopefully fixed) something similar?
 
I did once have a similar problem, a magnet had protruded from a cog on the actuator? motor? and damaged the circuit board holding the Hall effect transducers. The circuit board was available as a spare part. It wasn't particularly expensive either...

Could be simply a bad connection on/in your plug/ socket. The fact that you unplugged and plugged back in may be a clue? i would look around that area. Bear in mind that sometimes cable can break where they enter the plug/socket and cause intermittent contact as they move around. Internal connections can become loose.
 
Thanks all. Will look at service manual and contact SIMRAD. About to go away for a while with boat coming out of water so suspect it will be a problem for when I get back.

An intermittent power connection will usually cause it to go into standby mode. It is more likely a problem with the compass sensing.

I totally agree with that, makes good sense, but just to be clear and avoid confusion :unsure: There is also a data cable. I was not just referring to power.
