I note there is an update available for my Simrad TP22. Dated 12 Dec 2017 Version 1.1.04.00

I guess this is the most recent.

I have downloaded the update onto my computer but what do I do next?

I have had a look for instructions online and in my user manual but no luck.

Thanks

Mike

There is a service manual for the range, which might contain that. I found it online a couple of years ago on a Simrad site, but have a feeling that it got moved. I have a copy which I'll find this evening, send me an email address a) to remind me, and b) in case there's any info in it and I'll send it to you.

I've just read through the service manual and it's no help at all I'm afraid.

(If anyone wants a pdf of it, send me a pm with an email address - it's got wise words on how to take them apart, very good schematics both physical and electrical).

Thanks for replies, sorry have not been back sooner and thanks for the offer of a manual - sending PM shortly.

The reason I feel I need to update the software is because I have an issue with the unit as follows..................

Calibration.

Press and hold TACK then NAV until NAV light illuminates. Starboard light also illuminated indicating GAIN function. Press port and starboard keys to increase or decrease GAIN. This works fine.

Next press TACK to access SEASTATE function. I hear 2 bleeps indicating SEASTATE set at level 2. Pressing port and starboard keys SHOULD increase or decrease this setting but it DOES NOT!. SEASTATE is permanently stuck on setting 2.

I am communicating with Navico who advised me to perform some basic tests. Press port then starboard hard over both ways. Disconnect from tiller and hold still. Press AUTO then turn unit +/- 15 degrees one way then the other to simulate course alteration. Unit should correct. Everything works OK.

I have asked Navico whether it is possible for me to perform a software update myself and await their reply.

Now you come to mention it I vaguely remember hitting that brick wall three years ago, so I'd be keen to hear how you get on!

I am wondering which brick wall you hit?.

In particular does your unit when put into calibration mode/SEASTATE bleep twice and you are unable to adjust it?. At the moment I am not convinced my unit is faulty, it could be the manual is incorrect for the software version of my unit.

Complex issues

May be getting somewhere. I do have the original user manual for this unit but have just found one online which is certainly more comprehensive than the hard copy I have. The original manual is on the boat so will have to bring it home for a side by side comparison with the online version.

I read in the online manual words to this effect " having entered calibration mode the SEASTATE setting is indicated by the number of bleeps heard. 1 bleep for on. 2 bleeps for off."

This differs from the original manual.

Will await reply from Navico

Just in case anyone is interested I can provide this update.................

Navico/Simrad have replied.

Unless I have a Simrad plotter connected to this unit VIA Simnet I am unable to perform a software update.

Additionally I can confirm my user manual (paper copy) differs from the copy I found online.

The unit performs correctly in accordance with the online copy.

The manual supplied with the unit is not correct for this unit.

My unit works as follows.................

Calibration/GAIN and SEASTATE

GAIN has 9 user programmable settings 1-9

SEASTATE is either OFF or AUTO

Press and hold TACK then immediately afterwards press NAV. Hold both until red NAV light illuminates.

Green starboard light also illuminates to indicate GAIN function activated.

Adjust GAIN 1-9 using port and starboard keys.

Next..................................

Press TACK.

Red port light illuminates to indicate SEASTATE function activated.

1 or 2 bleeps will be heard.

1 bleep - SEASTATE = AUTO

2 bleeps - SEASTATE = OFF

If SEASTATE AUTO (1 bleep) to turn SEASTATE OFF press port key once then 2 bleeps will be heard.

If SEASTATE OFF (2 bleeps) to turn SEASTATE to AUTO press starboard key once to turn SEASTATE to AUTO then 1 bleep will be heard.

Press NAV to return unit to normal function and the changes are saved.

Thanks Mike, I bought mine 'lightly used' and just wanted to check that it was on defaults, and seem to remember not finishing off, possibly due to this. I'll have a play next time I use it.
