Simrad tiller pilot - tiller pin

I've recently bought a Simrad TP10 tiller pilot. I tried a test fitting of the tiller pin into the end of the tiller pilot shaft, with disappointing results - the end of the tiller pin is ball-shaped, but the socket seems more cone shaped - the pin doesn't go in very far into the hole and doesn't seat securely. Is this normal? I can see it popping out with the least excuse!

you need a new plastic bit that fits on the end of the arm

Did you push the tiller pilot ram down onto the pin until it clicked? Stiff when new but gets looser with age.
