Without wishing to contradict, simpson lawrence are in fact not part of lewmar.
I run a yacht chandlery in cornwall. and i have the Simpson lawrence windlass problem once a week!
The best place to source the parts is a company called yacht parts in plymouth, devon.
Contactable on 0044 1752 252 489 or www.yachtparts.co.uk
They stock all the spares and and have taken over production.
Hope this helps
Regards
Abbie

You've got me confused. Like Hylas, I thought that Simpson Lawrence had been taken over by Lewmar.

So I checked the website you mentioned (www.yachtparts.co.uk). They make no mention of manufacturing SL windlasses or spares. From their site, I get the impression that they supply a number of different makes - "Our windlass suppliers are Simpson Lawrence, Lofrans and Lewmar".

The Lewmar website, on the other hand, includes the SL windlasses alongside its own models, and lists spares for both.

I will double-check with both organisations next week, but my present feeling is that you are mistaken, and that Yacht Parts are in fact agents for Lewmar / SL.

Checked with Yacht Parts: they cofirmed that SL are now part of Lewmar. Yacht Parts do not manufacture SL windlasses or spares. However, they can source spare parts for SL windlasses, particularly older models that Lewmar do not support.

I had problems with my obsolete SL1000 anchor winch recently. I was advised by Lewmar that the SL1000 was no longer supported so the part I needed was no longer listed in their catalogue. Note that Lewmar will not normally deal directly with the public - only through their distributers.

In the end I found a good range of SL winch parts at the Aladdins Cave warehouse in Moody's Yard at Lower Swanwick (not the shop). I took the old defective part along with me and received very helpful assistance from the people there - I ended up searching their spare part racks and found what I needed (although the part number indicated that it was a spare for a more modern SL winch).

Lewmar must be aware that many of the newer SL winch designs are based on previous designs and therefore use many of the same components. Why can they not be helpful and produce a spare parts cross-reference list from the old designs to new? The answer is obvious!

the contact number you want for all Simpson Lawrence winches is 0141 5896287. He has got all the spare parts for the Francis 400. I have just refurbed my winch and I need some chain. Do you know what size your chain is and where I can get some from.
Regards, Ray.
