Silly Question thread

Most dipsticks do indeed start to blow out of the hole, it is because they have oil on them that they slip back down again. that is why manufactors fit a loop at the top of them, so that you can tie them down. It should be obvious really.

???
forgot the smiley maybe, or tongue in cheek?

Im so pleased you added that, I best never start my engines with hatches open as mine isnt tied down.

Is it best to use string or electrical tape ?

I'm pleased this threads here coz I know this is gonna be a daft question but here goes....(don't shout at me pl) I want to be able to watch sky sports etc on the boat but only have a digital aerial providing freeview. I assume I can't just install a satelite receiver box to work thru the digi aerial...can I????
Ok...now you can shout your abuse :o:o

Is that better:)?
oh come on, you didn't go and tie yours down did you? I wont tell anyone.

me, nah, why, where could oil possibly go out of the engine, you serious? I just check under the engine, no leaks, no all oil got to be in the sump

Got my boat now for 6months, did 250nm, being to the e/r one zillion times, haven't even passed though my mind to actually pull the dipsticks and see what's happening :p
Now, since you lot mentioned it, I may just about remember that tomorrow (but I doubt...)

In other motors (well, my dodgy cars) I had deviced other ways of figuring out when oil was low, namely oil pressure at certain revs and certain side gs on particular uphill wide bends. Sorted, and no need to lift the (v.heavy in one latest case) bonnet ;)

cheers

PS. do I also have to check gearbox oil? don't see any leak under either, so got to be right, yes? :p

digital aerial /= satelite aerial (the one is a simple thing albeit in boats is a small mushroom, the other is a biiiiig expensive mushroom)
so no, wont work for sure

Have we ever had a silly question thread ?
Just thought we could post daft things that niggle you but not worth a post on their own.

Like if my engines are running 35-50 psi , why doesn't the dipstick get ejected out like a spear gun harpoon

My dipstick often gets ejected when swimbo's at the helm and the pressure starts to build up :D

What you need to do is select the right Sky channel at home, turn around the iMac and point it at the TV.

Then the iPad on the boat can start a FaceTime session with the iMac.
(Use the iPhone to call a neighbour to accept the FaceTime call on the iMac).

Sorted.

It's one from the "department of inappropriate technical solutions".

You might laugh, but last season, I found that the 7yr old had the iPad on the coffee table, pointing towards the TV.

I asked what she was doing.

"Shhh, I'm recording. We don't have Disney Channel on the boat":o:confused:
