Query no. 2. I note many suppliers pride themselves on the fact that their polishes for grp boats are wax and contain no silicone - why? what could be harmful wih something like 'Mer' or 'T Cut'? Or is it mere yachty snobbery?

Don't know the answer to your question but after some 30 odd years of looking after GRP boats, I only recommend one product, 3M GRP polish. It provides an excellent gloss to the GRP surface and after 10 months still looks like it was applied yesterday.

Lots of people seem to think that if you put on Silicon polish it will cause a problem if you later want to paint it. IMHO, this is not an issue. Firstly are you going to want to paint your boat? Secondly if you do then by not polishing for one season you will loose most of the polish and what remains will be removed by normal pre-painting preparation.
