Did something similar a few years ago with another good skipper.
Racing in through Hurst narrows against the tide, almost on the north beach in a 36 footer. Similar boat in front hit bottom on the Trap below Hurst Castle and got taken back down tide behind us. So we marked the spot, kept a close eye on the sounder and just before we touched hauled in the main and lifted the keel over the bank, dumping the main quickly again before we had a chance to round up. Worked a treat!
