showing the right/wrong/no flag

This one might draw some attention to test your theory if anyone cares about flag ettiquete.

Flag virgin winter here.

Has anyone ever got into trouble for showing the wrong flag or no flag at all? ......................................... I am dying to know.... and also fancy starting a stupidly long thread where I can engage with my fellow pedants

Dylan

Dylan - you have to have seen the number of times this daft question has come up and generated more heat than light! I never had you down as an ordure stirrer. :)

It does....

you sew it and I will fly it

it would make a great film for KTL - breing dragged through the courts of herladry - if such a thinh exists

Dylan

And if Dylan sold the Slug, Himself and SWMBO inton slavery, he still could not afford to defend himself- esp. as he would have had to sell all his armour too.
With the Trial by Combat to settle the intial pleadings, my monies on the Queens Champion not our Dylan.;)
i didn't notice him in the Tilt yard lately!:D

I like shiny things...

some of my stainless steel is less than shiny - what is the best thing to clean it with and why should I bother?

Construct a large pyramid and place the slug underneath...leave overnight...and hey presto...may even sort your gears out...please let me know! Why bother?..... "Why....'cos you're worth it"! that's why......

am I a bad person for only having a hand held VHF on the slug?

In the near future that's all you'll need....the few remaining Coastguard stations will be so far apart that they probably won't hear you in any case.....I've only got a hand held...but then no-one talks to me anyway.........

Go outside the EU. Go to places where you have to go to a port of entry where you have to visit Customs, Immigration and Port Authorities.

Top tip, have the correct courtesy flag and do not try being a smart ar$e!!

This is particularly useful advice in Venezuela. Cheap diesel though........

but has anyone ever been fined

2 years ago, Agadir, Morocco. Dropped in to get a small problem fixed, got major grief from Customs guy, no courtesy flag. Was threatened with fine, got local lad to go and 'obtain' one. Cost 20 euros.

Venezuela, Isla Margarita where that poor chap has just been shot. Dire warnings about not clearing in and out properly, lots of hassle, easier to go with the flow. Its like a bribe, pointless arguing, just get it done.

Bahamas, was cleared in no problem, neighbouring boat though did not bother, attracted a 5 thousand US dollar fine.

Try googling around, there are some horror stories out there!! Will post in a mo when I find again the one about Antigua. Met the woman, she is, well, less than helpful!

More Ensign Madness

The skipper decided last year that with two RORC members aboard our little ship should take a royal warrent and become blue ensigned much to the merriment of our sailing friends.

Then earlier this month we found ourselves moored behind two of HMs patrol boats in St Helier. Despite pouring rain and howling wind, the Navy lads lined up to strike colours and my beloved decided he too should join in the ceremony stowing our ensign for the hours of darkness. This act raised more mirth on my part that the skipper who usually denies being a UK citizen (he was born north of the Irish border) has suddenly become a closet royalist, proud of his ensign and its traditions... presumably this has been brought on by some sort of midlife crisis... I just wonder what next?

My inlinations

I think a man of your inclinations in a boat designed for the masses should wear a plain red flag.
'Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer
We'll keep the red flag flying here'

curious to hear what my inclinations are....

although I really like the idea of flying the Royal ensign

and I have been described at a right royal B@astard

I am am tempted to buy one of these for the back of the boat though

Why have a bubble blower strapped to the transom ?

a pan , or two of Dylans 'one pan curry' and a bottle of Vichy Water...could solve the slugs propulsion crisis at a stroke....Prrraaarrrp!

sorry mate !

I refuse to look it up to see what it means

I am not playing flag games with the likes of a man whose name is a phone number

Dylan

:) Long time since phone numbers have been that short.

It means "Keep clear I am manouvering with difficulty" or in other words "Help! I can't stop!"
