Shouting

There are various intercom apps you can get for your phones. either use speaker phone or a bluetooth headset. most work over bluetooth so you don't need to be online or in range for mobile. Saves having to buy a dedicated device for a singular use.
Any you would recommend? I’ve not found any that are free and not dedicated to a particular headset. I may be searching for the wrong thing. We have aftershock bone conduction headset which work well - but so far only via phone call.
What's wrong with hand signals?
You need to both be facing the right way at the right time. And if your hands are busy eg trying to hook a bouy you can’t do them. Or if there’s traffic/plotters/depth sounds to watch the helm might miss something.
Even with headsets I'll probably end up shouting into it, at my peril of course......
I worried the same but actually because you don’t even need to speak loudly it’s a calmer experience whichever end you are. As there is always a time lag between a request and the action being apparent the two way dialogue avoids stuff getting repeated with more emphasis (ie yelled). The only time we’ve shouted was when the wind noise was deafening (it was gusting 30 knots) but putting hood up sorted that.

We have a pair similar to these.

Wind noise hasn’t been a problem. Mrs M has a safety cord on hers as she worries it will fall off into the sea when she bends over to put the chain hook on etc.

We have lots of chat as we approach the anchorage. ‘Did you see that boat with six girls and one young man…? He looked a bit tired. Etc.’

On a more serious note we think they’re brilliant. A complete game changer.

Thanks…positive feedback ……I imagined being able to discuss esoteric problems whilst anchouring…

Yes apparently it has its own abbreviation.
EOT
Engine Order Telegraph
Now I suppose we have now and stern thrusters and parking apps!

In another life I was a greaser in a Spanish trawler …I could never understand the fishing skippers gutteral Galician so either he came down or I went up to confirm the speed desired .Stop and start as easy

My wife is allergic to being shouted at but as she is partially deaf and I am a bit I was thinking about one of those headsets with ear thingy a and a small mic so no shouting is needed in our yachting outings, any experience of possibilities, thanks
You still talk to each other ?...how cute🥰😍😘....I bet you hold hands when walking

On one coaster the skipper invited his old friends in the summer months to crew. The Brigader treated every mooringup event as a military planning excessive whilstGerry the fourth hand was very deaf.I would stand on the focus and instruct the brigadier as to possible scenarios ,fender wise he in turn bellowed at Gerry the instructions ……all great fun😂
