Radio Checks

In the Solent, why could the CG not set up an automated radio check channel, some thing like an ansaphone and keep all those radio checks off 16 and 67?
I know that it really should not be needed but it cant be that difficult.

Your radio is probably as reliable as your mobile phone, unless it's very old. Before you make a car journey, do you ring somebody up to make sure your mobile is working (in case you need to make an emergency call)?

Moreover, if you can receive, you can nearly always transmit. So if you can hear anyone else's radio check, you probably don't need to do one yourself.

I would say once a season is plenty.

Re: I am that sad person

Chris,You should check your lifejackets a minimum of once per year by inspecting the gas bottle (if you have that type) blow them up manually and leaving them inflated over night,to make sure that there are no serious leaks. Then when you re-pack them,do your best to make sure you fold them in a different place to the last time, so as to avoid cracking at the crease. If the gas bottle is showing any signs of corrosion then replace it a.s.a.p
