Should i change my old fuel filter/water separator's for better/bigger ones?

Pela is just a brand name, they make the hand pumped vacuum oil extractors that work just as well with diesel and bilge water.
Nowt to do with original post but for those with racor/facor 500 filters SWMBO found a couple of nicely sealable plastic cups with lids in b+m the other day that take a racor 500 filter element perfectly, I'm going to keep one beside each filter with a spare element in for quick changes giving me somewhere clean to drop the old filter so it can be dealt with when back inland, and they have handles so easy to stow on a hook.
Just thought it worth sharing.

Is the precaution necessary? I have never had the need in my boat or vehicle and no problems.
I wonder is your fuel installation different in some way that makes it a pre requisite?

Well why not? Its a precaution worth doing for little effort or cost and may well save injectors etc.
I am the new owner of this boat and don't know where the diesel was bought or how old it is or was/is contaminated already,.
I'm not about to dump 600ltrs of fuel, so i will polish it first through twin facors one with a 30 micron and one with a 10 micron genuine filters.
Once im happy with the polishing and no water or dirt is seen at filter bowls i will add the treatment, at £16 its well worth the cost if it kills any remaining bug that may well be there. So necessary? maybe not, but for my own peace of mind I'm happy to do it.
