Shotley

Hi, what is the current verdict on the Shipwreck or Bristol Arms please?

Thanks

Ian & Jo

Don't know about Shipwreck but was in Bristol Arms about six weeks ago. Doesn't look anything special but their 'Bristol' Bitter was very nice, if you are a connoisseur of such beverages, tasted much like Adnams Broadside. Food was also rather good, quite pleasantly surprised, unexpected for a pub.

I'll let you know later, table booked for 1930 in the SW - bit too far to walk to the BA with 'me gammy knee' and can't be assed to get the bikes out of the forepeak :)

Well, Service was adequate, Menu was limited, Specials board wasn't obvious. Plates were warmed. Vegetables were very aldente but Cauliflower and Broccoli + potatoes only. Overall verdict - compared to the Ferry Boat last night, falling well short. There were the usual yotties talking loudly about there experiences in Antigua week etc etc. but you get that everywhere in yottie places I suppose

Only 3 stars I would say, but then I haven't been to the Bristol Arms...

we're based in Shotley

The Adnams in the Shipwreck is good as you'd expect.

For food - we find that if you eat from the pub menu (Fish and Chips, Ham Egg and Chips etc) it's fine - nothing to write home about but good portions, well cooked. Some of their more adventurous menu options have proved less successful. We go in there to eat only if we want cod and chips - and if you ask nicely they'll wrap it for you so you can go back aboard and eat it there...

We were in the Ferry Boat - You were with the Boat yard guys I take it? Food was excellent Steak and Kidney Pud with Kidney in every mouthful.

I was a bit noisy, but it was pay day :)

Yeah, we were having a farewell drink or several to wish Toby, Linda and Kit all the best as they leave Fambridge for Faversham

And then I got my arm twisted into getting the guitar out and things went from badto worse :D

Was the pud on the specials board ?

It was 'Pie of the week'

Surprised there weren't more yard people there. I would have said my own farewells to Toby and bought him a pint had I realized.

Ah

It was more of a yacht station moorers send off than a works leaving do. And being a working weekday (due to the need for Ironsides to get underway downriver as soon as poss on Friday evening) that doubtless limited who could make it too

Eat at Shipwreck last night. SWMBO had plaice special and said it was very nice. I had scampi and it was normal pub standard. My pint of East Coast IPA was exceptionally good however! First time I have been there for a couple of years since I was told the kitchens were closing just after I had placed my order at the bar! Couldn't face the walk to the Bristol so took the risk-worked out OK.
