Pleasantly surprised to learn that there is a new deal for Burnham Yacht Harbour residents at Shotley.... FREE berth if we notify them in advance (think up to 30 nights per year).

Anyway we plan to arrive 9 or 10 ish tomorrow evening.... will anybody be around for a beer?

Yes, we were able to take advantage of it a couple of weeks ago, even though we only phoned up on the day. And, as always and no matter who happens to be on duty, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

As for the beer... work stops play, unfortunately.

Jane and I are still here having decided not to go up to Ipswich today (weather forecast suggesting a blast back to the Crouch tomorrow is a good idea and unexpected developments require us to curtail the cruise a day or two early)

mIght still be awake at that time!

Still nothing said to Shotley berth holders about this, even in today's newsletter. I gather from Burnham that the reciprocal freebie is for up to three months' berthing but haven't seen it in writing. I don't remember seeing anything about the previous reciprocal half-price arrangement either.

Info about the free berthing at Burnham was in a Shotley Newsletter in April or May, can't find it on my system now. Up to aggregate of 30 days free berth and maybe Electricity as well. Otherwise half price at Burnham for Shotley people is a long standing arrangement, just tell HM at Burnham when you go to pay.

Thanks, found it in the November 2012 email:
Free berthing
Any fully paid up annual resident at Shotley can spend up to one month (free of charge) at our sister marina on the river Crouch in the beautiful and tranquil market town of Burnham on Crouch. The Marina has all the facilities you find at Shotley yet is only a few minutes walk from the town’s quaint old shops and varied restaurants. This would be subject to both pre-booking at least one week in advance and availability.

That's the one. In practice the pre-booking bit does not seem to be a worry, just turn up and if they have a berth ( and they always do, they have 50 unoccupied berths on C/D pontoon at present) it is free, that's what I and others I know have done.

I've used the reciprocal arrangement a couple of times and can confirm it's not necessary to give a week's notice - just phone the Burnham Harbourmaster on 01621 786832 before you leave Shotley, he'll usually allocate a berth immediately so you just arrive and moor up (being very careful on the precarious pontoons!).

I'm in Burnham now, and it's far from full. Makes a nice change; good walk along the riverside path into town, some nice places to eat.
