I went for a sail yesterday, Last of the summer race series. It was one of those times when I wish I had a video running and a GPS on to check speed. Starting as a horrible looking day with rain (even got the spray jacket out but did not wear it). No 2 son came with us first time this season and he is a bit of a devil dinghy sailor. Loves the spinnacker.
Anyway we had some nice spin runs in the early part of the course and then put spin up for longish run across Melville Waters. About 1.5NM. I didn't realise the wind had come up to 20 knots. So the poor little boat was flying verging on planing. I was helming, the only time I insist on helming due to danger of round up/broach. Not becuase I have more skill but simply taking responsibility. yes i was clutching that helm quite tight with a quartering wind. All went wellif quite scary until approaching the buoy wind was getting too shy and I asked son to get spin down. As soon as he left the windward rail to go forward I lost control and we had a round up. Due to skilled help on the spin sheet dumping it we averted a typical round up and lay down. Made up a bit of ground but unfortunately we had little chance against the 30+ fters we were racing against in the beat home.
With son helming going to windward my spot is water breaker up on the side of the cabin. Yes I did the job stopping "full frontal" water over bow a few times. So got very wet. Fortunately not too cold. Anyway yes a great pity I did not have a video camera running and GPS monitoring speed but you can't do it in retrospect. Thanks for the video clips olewill

Thank you for the account of your end of season fab sail!

I hope we have lots of wonderful sailing days this summer, westerly winds, with flat seas and sunshine, perfect!

You need you camera higher-up and aft of everything that is happening on the boat.

Excellent!

Initially I will try moving the mounting to the centre of the pushpit and see how that is, it should capture the on board activity, but there might not be much sense of being at sea or moving along. I just have to remember to take the allen key to remove the mounting!

No new Video this week, the outboard got us 2/3 of the way to the mooring, dropping some other people on their boat, then died! It refuses to tick over or run slowly under load, although it would run fast out of gear, so Im guessing a blocked jet. As by this time it was also p***sing down, we packed up and went to the club!
