Here is another short one. Redshank is an Evolution 26, lifting keel cruiser racer. We race from Teign Corinthian Yacht Club in Teignmouth, Devon. This season we are using the new RYA handicap system, so it will be interesting to see how that works out, we won our fleet in this first race of the season anyway!

I don't think there are any rules about putting up videos but there is a dedicated video section if you want them to be seen more often. Look at bottom of forum listings. By posting here your videos will gradually slip down the listing being replaced by newer postings.

Ignore that advice is my advice. I've been posting videos on here for years and never knew there was a video forum. Many users have a collapsed forum list that only shows the main forums.
I tend to use Scuttlebutt for that sort of film as it's more to do with sailing than maintenance.
You may want to build yourself a steadicam to keep the horizon level.
I went through several incarnations, none of which were terrific but good fun anyway.

There are some of them on this channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huk1Hv-es2o&list=PLw7vwJr_aecn0nbsU-lvbUK4Loj-PPXx5

This was before I started the steadicam trials

Thanks Lakesailor

It looks even shiftier there than we get off Teignmouth, when the wind is Westerly and off the shore. Gusty and shifty is the order of the day then!

I like the idea of a steady cam, I will have a think about that.

Stuart.

I am certainly not as qualified to offer advice as many others. But please do not ignore the possibility of also putting vids on forum video channel thingy, it seems to be an underused facility. Perhaps the Moderators can explain this?
That way they are easier for me to watch. Perhaps we all have different formats and search capabilities on here but what I find is that within a few days most posts just disappear from the 'page one' listing rarely to be seen again. Just a suggestion, welcome to forums and please let me share your sailing days at my desk!!!

Thanks. The thread I think you are referring to appears to be in the archive and locked, not posted to since 2009? Or maybe I am looking in the wrong place? Quite possible as I haven't been a regular reader here before I joined today.

I will keep them coming as long as my crew don't revolt, they were not too happy when I said the videos were going on youtube! Some careful editing has been required as the conversations on board do tend to be of an adult nature! lol

Good to see another Teignmouthonian on the forum! Didn't you guys do the RTI race last year? Fist to register too if I recall..........

Yes thats right, we did and we were!

What an adventure that was! Just sailing an Evolution 26 to Cowes and back from Teignmouth was quite an adventure, but the race itself, wow!

Teignmouthians everywhere!

I should be able to put another clip up later on today, I think I will do one inside the harbor / river, show that despite what the older pilot books say, there are no monsters or Dragons, just to odd whirl pool, sometimes, but not often, honest!

One suggestion. The sound is dominated by what I assume are the noises from the mainsheet blocks which I guess are very close to the camera. Also in number 2 the helm blocked a fair bit of the image.

Might be worth considering a new position for the camera or dubbing sound over those parts.

Most of the vid was a screen of the helms back and shoulder . Not very entertaining . Sorry.

I agree, the camera needs moving, its very hard to find a place where it will not get knocked or a rope caught around it. This was the first try with the camera so I'm sure it will improve with experience. The one I am currently uploading has a terrible sound track, so please mute, the outboard is running right next to the camera! Nice views of the Teign estuary though.

Well I got a bit of a rough ride with the other one I put up! Never mind lol

So a question for the experienced here, is it best to start a new thread each week when I put up the latest clips, or start one for "Wednesday night races Teignmouth" and just keep adding the new videos?

Thanks for your advice and help.
