I need to have some electrical work done on Cuchilo to get the Saftey cert so while the boat is with the guy i want to have a shore power socket put in . The main reason is to charge the battery without having to bring it home . Not that i need to very often .
Apart from the battery charger everything else on board is 12v so is there any point in putting in more sockets ? Can i not just plug in and still run everything on the 12v while the battery is charging or doesnt it work like that ?

Nope /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I think if i start running sockets i will end up filling the boat up with 24v crap to go with all the 12v crap /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Dropped Cuchilo off today and had a chat with the guy . He's going to put in a small consumer unit and one double socket . That should cover any needs i have as i very rarely need to hook up to power .

I can live without shorepower but my wife can't (hairdrier).

When it's plugged in I like:
Battery charger - posh one that's on all the time and with these yes everything will work on 12v when it's charging. In fact everything will work with the battery disconnected!
Fridge - stays on so you can keep stuff from week to week and it doesn't pong.
Hot water before you move the boat.

None of these need sockets, for sockets apart from the essential hairdrier:
In winter - dehumidifier and 70w heaters on frost stats in the engine bay and boat - saves winterinsing so you can go out without fuss on nice crisp winter days.
Power tools when working on the boat.
Chargers for:
Mobile phone
Laptop
HH VHF
led inspection lamp thingy
Battery Power tools

None essential but all nice.

I must admit i will probably never use it as most of my boating is barbies with mates wherever we decide to stop and then the BBQ gets filled with wood for a camp fire to last the rest of the night . We are only aboard our boats to travel and sleep really .
But as i have an electrician working aboard i figured i may aswell get it put in rather than try and do it myself .
