Hi, after some advise.
Have brought a boat in from Japan and would like to split the shore power so some of the boat is 240V,sockets,battery charger (which I have done) and some is 110v so I can run the fridge and hot water.

off of ebay but when I wire it into the mains it keeps tripping out the shore power yet when I wire straight 240 the same way its fails to trip out..
Cant seem to figure out where I'm going wrong...
 
Is the polarity the wrong way round on your shore power?

I'm not an expert on this, but as an ex Motorcaravanner (Please, no abuse chaps) it used to be an issue on the berths power supplies at some sites.
 
So if you plug it straight into the shore power inlet it works, but if you plug it into your 240VAC outlet which is fed by the shore power it trips it out, without anything attached?
Is this an earth leakage trip (RCD) or an over current trip (like a fuse?)
If the former then you have an earth leak, i.e. a path for current to flow back via the earth line which is bad on a boat as I'm sure you know.
If the former then it could be as simple as the startup current for this device being higher than the fuse (i.e. trip) rating. Sounds the most likely. Cure could be a higher current trip, but with a lower current fuse or trip for the rest of the 240V circuitry and also for the 115V outlet.
 
Can you confirm that the power module is two wire in and two wire out.

CAn you confirm your boat elektrix have an RCD breaker as part of the AC panel fitted in the original incomer of 110Volts.

If all these are yes then your problem is that there is a lack of earth supply to the RCD so it will cut out thinking there is an earth fault.

Could be worth contacting the makers for their recomendations though a selection of solutions will no doubt appear here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
First of all thanks for the replys. So the way its wired is 240 volt goes to a junction box then splits with 240v going to mains board on the boat as i've separated the battery charger and the sockets from the other 110v stuff, the other 240v source goes to the power converter gets dropped down to 110v this then goes off to the other side of the mains board where the fridge and water heater are located via the mains switch.The shore power has a (Not sure if this is right 50amp 50htz mcb) and this is what trips, if I change the wiring around I can stop it tripping but it then says its polarity is wrong no matter which way its wired.
