I recently suggested to my club that they install a couple of these on one of the pontoons.
The suggestion was declined citing cost of the unit and the installation thereof.
I have tried to find a source of the unit that is fitted with the meters and outlets but know neither the correct name nor a suppliers.
Anyone help please?

It isn't just the posts on the pontoons, it's the system to charge users. Either that, or you'll have people running electric heaters and induction hobs, plus all the other mains stuff that we clutter up our boats with. Then there's That Guy, with his electric boat and 1200AH of batteries that need charging... Just ask the Hardway management committee.

OK, I made That Guy up, but you know what I mean.

We'd been going through that over the last couple of years using a smart card system. Now people grumble that there aren't enough points, but more would require upgrading the supply to the club, which is silly money.

Common in caravan sites though charging by a meter is not common, you just pay a lump sum for power, water and sometimes black water.

So visit a caravan site and check the manufacturer's labels on the posts. One, cheap?, way to limit usage is to add a circuit breaker.

At Milford Haven marina it was (is?) compulsory for power users to purchase an online meter and display it. Yard staff would check consumption regularly.

Many marinas I knew off - insisted you buy the meter from them ... and if you left that marina permanently - to sell it back to them.

Just a point to 'others' - don't forget to NOT use that same metered lead when visiting another marina etc - as the meter will tot up and when you get back to home berth - you could end up paying again !!

"penberth3" .. I know it sounds daft - but I know people this happened to ...

They took their metered lead with them - plugged in at next stops ... meter kept counting .... then back to home marina - plugged in ... when they got bill later - the consumption at other marinas was part of the tally at home marina ... when queried with marina - they just said - meter says XXX - we charge XXX less previous meter reading YYY ....
