Shore Power question

Never having had shore power before, I tried hooking up my shore power connector today. Flicked on the trip switch and all seemed to function (battery charger whirred and the fridge came on)

However on the charger there was a red light and some amber ones.

My book of destructions and all the OEM user guides that came with the boat (used boat - prev owner did not know how it worked!) do not tell me what these lights mean. Not too keen on blowing the whole thingup so have switched off.

The charger is a Tecpro 2 - 4000 - does anyone have one of these and know what the indications mean

There are 3 rows of 3 lights and a single light for the 1/2 charge.

I have a red light on the 1st line (#3 position) and amber light on the bottom line.

A separate display unit is available as an option with an extension lead of different length
according to requirements.
Working of the charger is signaled with leds as follows (for every outputs) :
 Red led "DEFAULT" This led flashes in following cases :
1- Charger temperature too high, all the red LEDs flash;
2- Battery temperature to high, only the "battery fault" LED flashes;
3- Battery temperature sensor connected as an option
This led is fitted in the following cases :
1- Battery not connected 2- Reverse polarity 3- Short-circuit in output
 Green led "FLOATING" This led is lit when battery is fully charged and stays lit as
long as voltage is not less than 12.4 V
 Yellow led "BOOST" This led is lit as long as battery is not fully charged or its voltage
goes down again below 12,4V
 Yellow led "CHARGE-1/2 CHARGE" This led is connected to the switch located bottom
left of display. Charger delivers its whole capacity in position"Charge" (led
off) and about half around of its capacity in position "1/2 Charge" (led lit).

Is the boat english, or has it come from France or some place. I ask because some of the lights could be about polarity which chops and changes round france, dont know about other places. If it turns out that the polarity is wrong, you just need the change the wires round in the plug.

Not saying that this is the problem, maybe all the lights are telling you everything is ok. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks guys - the link is identical to the destruction booklet. The boat is english (Hardy) built in 05 - both polarity lights are light indicating okay (although one is rather dim compared to the other)
I have no flashing red led, just one light all the time. could it be that the solid red is "Battery temperature sensor connected as an option"?

As one who can just about change a light bulb (me and electrics really don't get on that well) I just need a simple explanation - perhaps I should check with Hardy?

Think if things seem to be working ok, I'd just carry on. The thingy seems to have some sort of brain as mine has, it will just switch off if there are problems. The battery is probably full if you've just stopped, so that might mean one red light. The boxes of tricks seem to know what there doing. I would not worry, till some thing goes wrong.

I think you have this query covered but for future reference, Hardy are fantastic at answering queries about their boats. Sorry - one more comment. The LED displays next to the various switches and indicators are notorious for bad contacts - that is almost certainly why you have one dim and one bright polarity light. Take the panel off and wiggle a few wires (how technical is that) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a Tecpro2 Version 97 on my 1999 Broom. It has 3 outputs and when I disconnected the wire to the engine battery one of the red lights came on. I disconnected the wire as the charger was putting out 16v to this battery. I am replacing this charger as 2 of the outputs are faulty. If you or anyone else wants the operating instruction book I will gladly post it.
I am New to this forum and grateful for the info on best battery chargers.
