Shockproof Waterproof Portable Hard Drive

Impressive, though I think the way to shock protect your offshore computing is to replace the hard drive with an SSD. No moving parts, and substantially quicker in operation. Not exactly cheap yet, but they will become mainstream in a fairly short while. (SSDs exist in both flavours IDE/PATA for older laptops and SATA for more modern machines)

Depends on use. Some SSD degrade quite quickly.

Waterproof drive, but I can't see how the USB cable ends are waterproof when plugged in.

Have we all not forgotten about that USB device in our pockets… only to remember after the event of ‘laundry day’ … and to discover it continues to provide perfect service!?
If it is a standard HD which is modified to withstand US Army misuse, it quite possibly has higher grade / stronger magnets within its components, or they might be relying on the outer rubber to absorb the shock or a better / stronger park function…. or any number of factors.
I just thought being water and shock proof (up to a point) that it would be of benefit to the Boating community.

I've also found that my water proof shock proof motorola Defy does what it sais on the tin. I've tested the waterproofing to around 2m, I just put some silicon grease on the port covers. It sais it's only water resistant but seems happy so far.
