Tony Smith, who took over shoal waters from charles stock, and has written his own book about travels on her, Sea Country, has put her up for sale on his facebook page. He’s looking for the right owner, more than just money.
He has a blog here Creeksailor or his fb page is creeksailot.
Be a great small boat for an east coaster :)
By the way, Tony has removed his blog and there's nothing there anymore. As fas as I can tell he still posts on FB and Twitter.

This is near similar view taken in March 2022 from Sadd's wharf. To the left is Downs Road boatyard. To the right is Fullbridge bridge.
The workboat in the photos look the same to me (partly hidden behind ShoalWaters) The bungalow matches in the 2 photos (The house with the glass end is a recent build)

I have a Falcon.

I was midway through converting her to a launch when we moved to the Isle of Wight. Put her in a garage in Southampton....she's still there 6 years later.

There's some Shoal Waters stuff in the Fairey Owners Club archive.

Yes. It is opposite the factory. I suppose it is a cardinal mark (ho-ho) marking the water intake for the factory. Maldon Sea Salt prize their product for its unrefined qualities.

Has he hoisted the jib the wrong way up?
I've just checked through all the photos I have of Shoal Waters and yes, the jib looks like it is not the normal way up. This might be for two reasons, one it gives better visibility in crowded areas as well as higher sail area with congested river banks or two, he accidentally hoisted it up the wrong way. In 2009 Charles was 82.

Not sure if the timing of this thread is a coincidence, but today (19th) is the anniversary of AC Stock's death, in 2011.

RIP

It is indeed and I am reminiscing and will be for the rest of the day. I'll probably also re-read a lot of his online articles and maybe even his first book.

RIP Uncle Charles.

I recall doing his winter evening navigation classes in Chelmsford.

The course was fully booked and no-one dropped out. A few did the same course multiple times. Each week you also had a slide show of the pictures he had taken over the years. He showed me one of his log books of the 1960's. Beautifully written in fountain pen. Happy memories of those times and bumping into him in various places when sailing.
