Does someone have the specialist knowledge of container-shipping to be able to help a fellow-owner of a CN35 ashore in the Cape Verdes? She is trying to get a very badly damaged vessel to a decent yard, probably in the US. This is the message site with the details: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/campernicholson/message/2178
You may need to look back through a few pages to pick up the whole story. Grim reading!

i would have thought the major yacht transporters would be no help in the cape verdes. when we enquired about shipping costs were found that we'd have to get to the main shipping port and the cost for transatlantic shipping would then be $25,000. best bet i would have thought would be as deck cargo on a local ship back to gran canaria.

from the way she describes the boat's condition i'd be surprised if the insurers don't write it off.

sorry to hear about wantok, we met patricia in las palmas before the 2001 ARC where she had problems with deserting crew and didn't start. she also dropped out of the 2002 event at the last minute. i wouldn't like to speculate on the reasons for her problems in this forum.

Do try the Dutch shipping Co. Sevenstar. They are specialised in overseas yacht transport and have regular lines to a lot of destinations. I'm surre they can also arrange 'specials'. On their normal lines, you don't need to take the mast down or anything, just bring your boat and they take care of the rest. Not cheap, of course, but I've neard they are reliable.
Find them at www.seventar.nl (also English version of the site)
Good luck. It's an awful story which I hope will never happen to my Nicholson.
