I am considering shipping my boat out to Malta.
Looking at options. Anyone done this and the most cost effective shipping company?
All feedback appreciated

Having recently investigate the costs of trucking our Targa 34 to Marseilles, the most expensive quote was circa £7000 pick up in the UK and the cheapest under €4k from Le Havre.

If you have the range then a hop to Corsica and another to Italy and onto Malta via Sicily might be cheapest.

What boat is it?

Hurricane, thanks for your trip info, the best and most enjoyable is always on your own hull. I've done a couple of deliveries to Malta on my customers boats, but they were paying the fuel,!
My boat is a Targa 43 and looking at loading her onto a ship. One thought was to get her shipped to Gib, pick up some cheap fuel and do the rest on her own hull. Time might be a problem, so just looking at all the alternatives.

Great idea clive , I'll come and service it next year , probably take me a month .

Van de wetterring are coming in at silly money, £29k to ship a 43foot boat!
So far surprisingly Peters & May are the most reasonable.

Isn't your cheapest option to cross-channel by sea, then truck to Med, then by sea to Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily (or Tunisia if you're feeling especially brave) and on to Malta? You could do it in five legs, which would be something like £5k trucking/cranage and about £3-4k fuel. If you're taking it all the way on a ship, although obvs much easier, it's going to be at least double that, no?

+1. If not willing to do it himself then hire a skipper for a week.

Or better still, take the opportunity to enjoy some fantastic boating grounds in Corsica and Sardinia. Carloforte being particularly nice, especially if you like Tuna and quiet anchorages!

Thought of selling and buying a med boat but all the boats ive seen down there as Pete has mentioned have paperwork missing, been too hammered by the sun etc etc. I still might do some of the trip on her own hull, time permitting.

Interesting that your experience is similar to my own. But honestly, get a quote from VDV for Le Havre to Marseilles and if you don't have time to complete the rest of the journey yourself then paying for a delivery skipper will be worth investigating.

Hi my Antares 30 was shipped from the UK to here in Malta by Peters and May. Whilst I did not ship the craft myself it was shipped from Southampton to Valletta Malta 4 yeas ago. You could look at their site. Hope you find something.
