Brings back memories of my first job as a trainee radar tech with Decca Radar in 1972, wiring up the 28, 32, and 36 way Amphenol connectors for the Decca Navigators.

Then in 2000 looking at a 19 way MiL spec connector for a CCTV installation on a vehicle that I had made a few years before and could not read the letters on the plug to make up an extension cable. With the salesman holding the magnifying glass of my Swiss Army knife so I could read and see what I was soldering, that was the point I realised I needed glasses ... and so did the salesman

Old discussion - new question: Replacing the spiral cable of my old SHIPMATE RS 8300 handset.

I search for the cable connector? From other posts I see that it is a "bulgin"
I need a 6 pole "bulgin" female connector?

But I do not find it with the inner dimension / diameter of 11 mm.
Looking at bulgin specs ( https://www.bulgin.com/products/pub/media/import/attachments/Circular_Power_Connectors.pdf ) > page 40 ff, type 400 Series Buccaneer I do find the plug with 6 pole - but it seems it has other dimensions.

Perhaps some of you experts remember / have a source, type number or part number of the connector for the SHIPMATE cable?

Well - as an engineer I can easy rebuild an new cable ... just need the clear specs of the plug - and I guess I found the "bulgin" type:
It is the "bulgin" type 400 in the picture of post #44 bottom left, 6 pole.

From our electronics retailer: bulgin plug 10 euros + new spiral cable 4mm/6 pole 15 euros + my work = around 25 euros ...
I will keep the old SHIPMATE vhf radio (good condition) as a backup - this week (black special day ...) I ordered a new ICOM M510E with AIS receiver as new up to date marine radio for our Azimut.

You are forgetting the £40 for soldering the "plug and cable" onto the handset

I bought good replacement plugs from RS Components in the UK a few years ago. Few quid each.

Use black Sugru to repair the rubber where the cable goes into the handset or plug - looks like it could have been new (if done right).

Have repaired /replaced/bodged many of these cables over the years.
Why they used such a flimsy bit of cable to such a brick outhouse piece of kit is mystery.
Cannot recall one being binned other than the cable sleeve falling to bits after Simrad decided to no longer stock replacement curly leads.
From memory they really were a PITA to solder .
