Hello All

I’ve got a shifting issue with my starboard DPH-A drive.

The boat was fully serviced in March, which included a new cone clutch and shift cable on the starboard drive. It worked great once that was done.

However, heading back into the marina today, she wouldn’t engage forward gear on starboard . Reverse was working fine.

It will bite into forward if you push the shifter past neutral.

So new cone, new cable but new problem. Has anyone got any suggestions?

many thanks

Hi, the wrong type of oil and the cone won't stick, hopefully just adjusting the wire.

Could try recalibrating the throttle.

I had a new cone once on DPG .Found at a biannual strip down service out of tolerance .
The techs insisted on a sea trial when it was put back in .The lift guy left the slings in the dock water .

My self + mate waited ashore .Both techs went off for 1/2 hr .On return put it back in the slings , re lifted it and adjusted something.Use a long screw driver up a hole in the drive ?

Plonked it back in and handed over saying” if any shifting problems bring it back “ or Fr words to that effect .
The lift left on standby and further adjustment lift + any further lifts were all in the price btw .

As it happened it was faultless that season in my hands .
Although I got a courtesy e Mail a few days later to wrap up the work , sign off .

And how does that comment help the OP?
Not to fiddle with it get an experienced tech , pref the team that did the work as further adjustment was factored in when mine was done .Indeed it happened.Although the adjustment was done in the slings .
Wish I could say the tech dived in the ER with a screwdriver but he didn’t.

Hope it is a simple internal adjustment on the DPH , the Op s variant .

@ the Op post a pic of the “easily accessible actuator “ inside .So we can see if there’s any adjustment mechanism at that end .

Sounds like he’s not adjusted the cable correctly, you can do this from inside the boat , by disconnecting the cable from the actuator , push pull cable you can feel the neutral position on the drive by doing this , then compare it to the shift actuator pin , adjust the eye on the cable to suit .
I would do a lever calibration first , them if it’s no better adjust the throw of the cable , he may have clamped the cable to the drive incorrectly which is a lift out .

Thanks. I did it by following the instructions in the manual for earlier engine/drive on my friends boat. There is nothing in the d4,d6 operator's manual.

Hi,
Not sure it is same in all set ups but it worked on my DP-G with electronic actuators.... I found that the actuators move slightly when you add 12V power (ignition on but not start). With ignition on you do the cable adjustmemt. After I have done this my shifting is perfect and my clutch engages immediately. Hope it helps.
