Shepherds Cowes

We’re in Cowes Yacht Haven atm and will be until tomorrow lunch time. I’ve pm’d Superheat to say hello but not heard anything. I’m surprised there aren’t any other Forumites here. F8 at Bramblemet last evening/night.

We’re walking over to Osborne House this afternoon. It’s £1.50 return on the ferry which I thought very reasonable.

You might find ColHel at East Cowes as I did a couple of weeks ago should you be over at EC . The ferry had been free and reliable for many years before Dopey Dave arrived .

We have visited the folly dozens of times and we love it there. Don’t know why you have attitude with the place. For us as a family and a dog it’s great.
Have booked an afternoon table at the coast bar for Saturday.
It's a great location, and dancing on table is fun. but,
The menu is the same as every other Greene King pub, food made somewhere centrally and microwaved at the pub.
Main Menu | Folly
Main Menu | Fountain Inn
You might as well eat at McDonalds

Lovely sunny day on the island but the chain ferrystill isn’t working but latest news is the council are to sue the builders. How long will it be before they say they constructed it the councils instructions? No explanation still though as to how a solution is reached to prevent the continual breakdowns

The unreliability can be fixed. What can't be fixed is the problem during a spring ebb, the length of the chains and consequent depth over the chains resulting in the need for the pusher tug. To my mind can only be solved by a smaller vessel offering a smaller obstruction to the flow.

Amazing how much money you can save by loosing a borough engineer s salary. And all the awkward questions that don’t have to be answered before renders are accepted. With this internet thingy every ones an expert now on everything.

I’m guessing he’s saying that by having dispensed with local expertise namely a borough engineer the council didn’t know what is was buying ? Hence they saved by dumbing down the council team . Clearly if so this is a convenient explanation for Dave as he can blame the last admin while raising parking charges and agreeing to unfettered delevopment at Westridge while Ryde ice rink and harbour rot away due to council failures.

OK,. got that.

In my view, the best restaurant in Cowes is No 3. It's just opposite the ISC, it's tiny, very popular with the locals, and booking is essential.

3 times now I have taken friends to the Folly, saying what an amazing place it is, good food, great beer and dancing on the tables.
Each time food was either cold, crap or took an hour. The dancing on the tables never happened.
i also understand that the water taxi are getting fed up as few people go there now.
That is what you get by getting rid of a very cable barmaid who nearly run the place and then 8 managers in 16 months

Folly has been a place to avoid sadly for many years unless walking from island harbour to east cowes and stopping for a refreshing drink. It’s a great shame as if it was taken over by the management of coast in cowes or indeed the lifeboat at east cowes it would be worth a visit. I suspect it’s an inability to have a good chef which has been its failing.
