I am looking for 5 other shareholders (1/6th shares @£50K) to join a syndicate to buy a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter @£300K - it is ready to go!

Are there any projected returns, or is this another hole in the water into which we are to throw money in increasing amounts with alarming regularity?

Aren't boats/ships normally sold in 1/64 portions?

Many families in the Maritimes owned a small share of ocean-going sailing vessels.
While powerful merchants and managing shipowners held the majority of shares and controlled the operation of these vessels, it was common for friends, spouses, farmers and labourers to own a smaller portion.

The common practice was to pay for a ship’s construction by selling 64 shares.
This entitled one to 1/64 of the money made when the ship and cargo was sold at the end of its journey.
Tradesmen and suppliers to the shipyard would often take shares in a ship instead of money for their work .

The barque Robert Godfrey

was owned by farmers, shipbuilders and sailors who lived in Dorchester, New Brunswick. Seven members of the Taylor family alone – two of them sea captains – held at least two shares each.
The ship’s builder, Robert Andrew Chapman, was the biggest shareholder with 12 shares.

The expression "when my ship comes in" is used today by people looking forward to the time when an investment or gamble pays off and makes them rich.
It originally comes from the relief shareholders felt when their ship arrived safely in port, sold its cargo, and they were assured a profit on their initial investment.

If you would like us to consult on any business plans you have in mind please let us know, we can host details on our web site and would be able to help find investors if things look solid.

As mentioned 64ths is the usual expression when sharing ownership of a vessel.

When you say "it is ready to go" it implies it is not a new build. Hence what is her name and age? You'll have to provide more information.
