Looking at Shamrock Quay as possible mooring. Slight concern over noise from onsite pub and noisy patronage on music nights/football match days.
Is it an issue?

I was there for 2 years, Love the place, i only moved because i wanted to give the drystack at Hamble point a go as my time on the boat was limited due to work commitments last year, so Hamble was a better location for me. I am now moving back to Shamrock on the 1st April. Yes its in the center of Southampton and if your heading home just as a match finishes the traffic on the main road crawls along, however i never found this a big issue and the cost savings compared to the Hamble , ocean village etc more than make up for its location in my view, I suppose it depends on how you use your boat, for me it was a marina to keep my boat in before heading to Cowes or elsewhere rather than staying on board in the Marina .
Cant say i ever had a problem with the noise level from the pub , i don`t believe they have music nights and the match days appear to be well managed so never noticed any issues with Noise etc.
If you prefer a quiet location i am sure they will find one in the Marina for you. My berth was on F pontoon which was pretty central and as i say i cant remember having an issue with noise.

Moved to Shamrock from the Thames 2 years ago. Selected Shamrock as best all round value for money and location. Just going into our 3rd year there. Never had any issues with noise from the pub or problems with match days other than traffic if you get your timings wrong. Not the village feel of the Hamble marinas but considerably better value for money IMHO. Quay Fifteen restaurant on site is excellent, and there's the Yellow Wellie Café too. New shop opened recently selling fresh fish/shellfish which is also excellent. A quiet mooring was one of the boxes to be ticked when we moved - and we're still there :)

Good news. Thank you.
Wavey, has the move proved fruitful? Also moving from Thames to stimulate the old grey matter. Will potter around the Solent at 10 knots - will we get bored?

Fruitful - Very. Only regret is that for various reasons we weren't able to make the move a few years earlier. SWMBO loves it too. You won't miss having to get up every 15 minutes or so to do ropes/fenders/locks :)
We can cruise @20 knots but often happy to potter at far less. What's the rush?
IMHO the Itchen is the best place to be. Whist Shamrock isn't probably most people's idea of a weekend destination, it's a great place to base yourself, in part because of MDLs Freedom Berthing. Feeling lazy and want an easy walk into Southampton and plenty of eateries/drinkies on site - Pop to Ocean Village. Weather a bit naff/blowy - Pop to Hythe or up the Hamble where there's Hamble Point, Port Hamble and Mercury. All MDL so free :)
Best bit is getting to the bottom of Southampton Water and you really are central and spoilt for choice as to which direction to go.
Anything I can help/advise on just let me know.

Thank you. At Bray so MDL move should be relatively easy.
Red boards back today on the river, so another weekend scuppered, hence the move. We boat in the winter but haven't been able to get out of the marina for three months due to the river levels. And lock closures don't help either...

We were at SQ for a year. Conversation in the cockpit would stop occasionally whilst planes from Southampton Airport passed overhead.
No issues of noise from the local pub.
SQ area itself is a bit industrial.
Not much choice of eateries. Quay Fifteen excellent but don't bother with the Waterside.

Shamrock quay is 1000x better since they turned the pontoons around. I was there 8 years ago and with the tides in a single engine vessel it was a nightmare. With the new concrete pontoon to stop water flow its great. Not had any noise issues at all. Match day traffic is annoying but just leave Southampton going past the ground and it doesn't hold you up. Just make sure you get something on the inside of the concrete pontoon as the wind REALLY blows up the itchen, My boat was moved to the hammerhead whilst dredging and it shredded my hood it was that blowey. Anything A pontoon or B pontoon on the up the river side is a nightmare to moor in any kind of wind and is really bouncy when trying to sleep on boat. Anything else is good.

why not hythe marina?! it may be a bit further but in terms of peace and quietness it's 100x better - lovely village too

The pub in question is now closed - I saw a noticed on their door saying their lease had come to an end and the bailiffs have been there!

Hythe Marina is nice but I'd find the lock a bit of a trial after a while. Also, depending on where you live, Hythe can add considerable time to your journey. We looked at Hythe when we moved down that way a couple of years ago but as it was a 30 minute plus extra journey time each way versus Itchen/Hamble marinas we gave it a miss.
