Here is some interesting stuff on this delightful week including one poor sod who was shot with the starting gun in 1864:

The regatta is an easy going bucket and spade event and you can generally borrow a boat to join in. Watching the dinghy racing is grand because you can often see the whole course and a boat failing to nail a mark gets swept by the tide, the length of the harbour, to have another go, great fun.

The Shaldon Regatta pulling dinghy is a lovely thing - thinking of getting one myself.

Ahoy there, very many thanks for the info you posted; all in all very interesting reading; Living down here now from the Suffolk Coast, its interesting to glean the information about the local South West Nautical history, including the boat builders and their boat styles and designs.

Teignmouth and Sheldon on the opposite sid3 of the river are a delight...... many years ago I spent a week there...... lots of twin keeled Eventides on the mud on the Sheldon side and or course Morgan Giles on the Teinmouth bank.

Oh if only they were affordable and available. There are a few on the Dart but never do they become available to us mere mortals. The best pulling boats by far in this area.

" re Regatta dinghy by Mariners Weigh at Shaldon South Devon; they are both a of very popular design and well built and have many uses on and near the Teign river......"

The new cost is £1400 for the basic Regatta boat which is a lot of money but stacks up very reasonably against some of the alternatives.

The man at the shop says they rarely come up for sale secondhand and most are kept in the family. They always say that. However, as I have been casually looking out for one for twenty years, I think in this case it is probably true. As sideshowbob has confirmed.
