I would like to fit a IGM 10 yanmar into a 22ft sailboat ,the exit area for the shaft log is rather small ,would a 3/4'' prop shaft be ok. also any direction towards general information regarding installation would be very much appreciated.
All the very best to all for Christmas!!

Go ahead, with proper engineering, you should be fine. My VP2002has taken me to Fla from the great lakes. Good Luck.

IMHO if 3/4" dia. is crital for size ie limitation of fittings ok. personally I would go for 1"" or 25mm,less chanch of whipping if there is a misalingment with wear. Merry Xmas and a happy new year. Looks as if its going to be an interesting one for you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fitted a 3/4 inch ss shaft to a 12hp engine with a 3 blade prop around 9 years ago,
I no longer own the boat but I know it has not been a problem as I sold it to a mate.

make sure is metric so you can get accessories

[/ QUOTE ] Good point- be careful with imperial/ metric - check the size of the shaft coupling Yanmar supply, and choose the shaft accordingly. I think** they supply a 20mm coupling, and 3/4" is 19.05mm. I would therefore be inclined to go for a 20mm shaft, which dictates the size of the other bits and pieces you will need (stuffing box/stern gland and cutless bearing). I found that Lancing Marine were an excellent source of advice and hardware. If you have a deepish pocket I would also consider a Halyard Aquadrive, especially in a smallish boat, as it will cut down on vibration and obviate a lot of alignment difficulties. If you don't have an Aquadrive you will still need a semi-flexible coupling like the R and D.

** This needs checking!
