I want to move prop back about 20 mm. Shaft has 4 in R& D flexible coupling and 4 in split clamp coupling. Can any body suggest where to buy a spacer please. ASAP don't list one .
Thanks.

It's only a spacer. If you were in the Gobi Desert, you would just use a plywood or MDF disc. Why not?

Thanks for supplier, cor they're expensive might have a go at making one.

Unless you have the facilities, they are not as easy to make as they look. As stu says the registers and hole placements have to be exactly right and the finished item should be plated otherwise it is likely to go rusty.

What bit of it is going to go rusty. Certainly not the mating faces.

How far in to the coupling does the shaft go? Does it have a locking screw or pin. I'd think about pulling the shaft out if it's only 20mm and refixing it in the coupling. If it has a nut on the end inside the coupling then that's a no go.

Suggest you get a quote for a one off from a machine shop which will put the price of a ready made one into perspective. Normally the only reason to fit a spacer is to make room for a rope cutter, so that is the only source of a ready made one.

Good luck if you have the facilities and skill to make one.

I had a spacer made for my thermostat housing at a workshop in Pembroke Dock. Its design was essentially the same as a coupling spacer. Cost me £30.

Just made one from a bit of industrial nylon I had lying around. The advantages of a lathe and drill press in the garage are many.

However, I should have gone and got a machine shop to make me a longer shaft - I paid £100 to repair the old shaft which was worn at the cutlass bearing when (too late!) I asked them what a new one would cost - £170, they said.

A bit more thought would have saved me from having to make the spacer.

I made two large discs for a pot hauler, the problem is with the bolt holes, same as for a shaft spacer. As long as the registers are OK I would suggest oversize bolt holes, very difficult to drill accurately.

Yes, agree. I went .5mm over on 10mm bolts but could probably have gone less if I had a smaller drill bit or took flange off engine.
