Shackles at Lidl

CMP/Titan suggest testing of one shackle does not meet industry standards - could not agree more - money talks.

Here one 3/8th" shackle costs A$14, each - 5 would cost $70 or stg35 and if I test 4 different suppliers almost stg300 - to no benefit

Shackle makers set their own specifications. They decide on safety factors, they test their shackles and use the safety factor to define WLL and incorporate the 'answer' in their shackle as an embossed '1t,' or '5t', on the body pf the shackle.

What worried me was the bluster and then the acceptance that the figures were right (and with a stock of shackles) - the need to change the strengths, on their website, from metric ton to short tons.

This then raised the question - if they did not know their shackles did not meet their own specs - did they test the shackles at all......?

If they did test the shackles why did they think they could get away with it....?

I note that CMP define on their website that their Black Pin shackle are stronger than their G40 chan - omitting too mention the strength of shackles (in general) can be reduce by 50% if side loaded. Other shackle suppliers mention the degradation due to side loading - personally I don't think CMP shackles escape the requirement.

I don't recommend CMP Black pin shackles.

If you need a new anchor shackle look to Crosby, Peerless (under their Peerlift range), Yoke or Campbell. Plenty of choice
