Seriously now folks:
According to The Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea.
"SEVEN SEAS, a saying which really means all the waters which cover the earth and refers in fact to the seven oceans, the Arctic, Antarctic, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, and Indian".
Or is it just a label invented by the sailing fraternity to describe the combined scary-bits of various other oceans running around the bottom of the world!
reminds me of a game we played on the ARC crossing, name the 7 deadly sins, the 7 wonders of the world etc. Didnt get as far as the 7 seas, perhaps irrelevant. And what is the shortest Motorway in the UK?
hi,
I read a long time ago somewhere(in a faraway galac--?)
that they are the eastern seas
the Tea Clippers traversed on their way to/from
Shanghai - java sea, sulu sea etc....
fan-- ?
It strikes me as very odd that people involved in an ocean voyage , even if it is the ARC , were playing a game based on naming seven things of a kind and did't get to The Seven Seas.
Anyway , in the middle of all the silly clutter folowing my question I had a sensible answer. It might be completely irrelevant to you , but an old one , and important ,to me
