Sessa C52 or new Fairline Targa 52GT

Doh! knew we discussed it somewhere, still 38knts is mighty impressive if they can get that from a nearly 18 ton loaded 54 foot boat with 600's. The ABS 47 with same engines and nearly 4 ton lighter officially does 39 knts (although I have had 41 out of our demo), good for them if they can crack that speed. Means also the engines are running around 2700rpm at cruising so below the more uneconomical upper ranges of the engines. Once past the 3000rpm mark D6's really burn the juice we have seen IPS installations V's ABS 47 with same the motors but they burn 50% more fuel for 28 knts cus they have to run harder at 3250 rpm as opposed to 2700 rpm yet are the same length and weight. What appears to happen is once IPS engines run past 3000 rpm to attain highish cruising speeds they start burning fuel at shaftdrive levels.

please forgive me as I'm new on here.

[/ QUOTE ]Don't worry Pete/Lou/whatever, we always appreciate a good rant against Volvo on sunday evening!...

Volvo claim they shear and leave the boat floating. If you run aground at speed with shafts, the p-brackets get ripped out of the hull and the boat sinks, so i'm not sure its a disadvantage of IPS.

V53 really does get so much right. Very social down below.
I slightly wondered where all the space went on the Windy, though it looks built to last forever and reeks of quality.

What about any of the boats from Sunseeker?

Agree the Pred 52 looks a little sqused - like viewing a P72 in 60% shorter screen

What about a Portofino 53 with teh new design hardtop - I had one of teh early designs and loved it, new one looks miles better too.

Currently have a Portofino 47 hardtop on shafts and agree with one of teh posts that if I were buying new today would possibly look at specing IPS. BUT the writeup in this months mag suggests that shaft drive boat was better when the weather turned a little lumpy.

Im considering selling my 47HT to go for the manhatten 52 which I believe is teh same hull as the Pred 52 but you get the upstairs bit - HID has never entertained a flybridge until now.

Hi MRC.

By coincidence we are considering the Predator 52 - it remains to be seen if the view out when berthing can prize us away from our flybridge.

Freddies.

Where are you planning to keep the 52?

For UK waters, sliding doors are a must imo.

That narrows the choice down for us.

All med Boating so dont really like the idea of a closed cockpit/ saloon area like on the Predator. Like the open-ness of the C52 and the Targa 52. Princess has gone off the boil a bit. Interior is like walking into the 50's!
