My boat as an old manual windlass - with no visible means of identification and no instructions. Has anyone any general advice about servicing?

As far as I can tell it has one grease nipple on the chain gipsy, and what looks like a hole for oiling / filling on the body (plug with a square 'head').

Any ideas gratefully received!

Bedouin,
Sounds like a Simpson-Lawrence Hi-Speed 500. I also have one in need of servicing. I need the bushes.

Someone else may be able to help in where to get spares now they have gone bust.

regards,
Philip

I think they are actually Francis windlasses, they used to be in Manchester, I will investigate further, but I know they are still around.

My Windlass is a Simpson Hispeed, I have had real trouble getting it apart! The bearing has seized. I have soaked it oil and it now turns, but not really freely, I assume I need a new bush so would be interested if anyone knows where parts an be got? Anybody know how they came apart?

Cheers

I have an exploded parts list drawing. If you send me a PM with your email address, I will email the drawing to you.

I've got two in bits in my garage - both needing the same parts. I can't even make one from the two.

regards,
Philip
