How much to service a pair of these things, there is also some vital mod suggested that needs doing ASAP to prevent future grief.
Owner is considering taking boat up to a Thames based VP dealer for service.Probably cost him around 400-500 quid just to get it there.
Surely cheaper to get service agent out to him ?
Boat is a 36ft fly of french descent....
Comments welcome.

There was no official mod I’m assuming you mean to get more oil to the top end , this was a mod suggested by an engineer from a Thames based dealer .

Oldgit, what do you mean by "Service" (is it just an oil change or valve clearances, injectors, etc)? If you send me your email address then I can sent you the service protocol / ticklist.

However, I can't see that paying £500 to get a boat somewhere for a service is at all economic when someone like VolvoPaul or Colin Ryan (who lives in the Camberley area) would be willing to travel.

In fact, £500 should cover a large chunk of the bill for a simple oil and filters service.

I thought the 300 had hydraulic tappets ?

Edit : Pete sent through the schedule. Annual adjustment apparently. Bet that does not get done that often!

Also on there clean turbo every 200 hours and change "Outboard drive" bellows annually but DP drive bellows every 2. What is an outboard drive if not an outdrive?!

Kad 300 has manual tapets on rockers .
While PeteM ,s kindly volunteered to send a copy of the owners manual I,am not sure it’s gonna do any good .
Opening pages say words to the effect “ high speed planing craft ‘ other parts run at “3200/3400 rpm “ etc .
Keep that in mind ps .
The mod is I guess related to how can put this ? Well it’s becoming a forum theme , misapplication/ misuse / not following design brief of the boat .
We had a guy wanting to go 3 knots to fish ,wondering if his Yanmars would cope at barely tickover now this .
What do you guy do , buy a defender 90 and whinge about trackday times and tyre grip or live on a farm ,buy a lotus and ask the lotus forum how to increase the off road mud plugging abilities of it - geesch Guys !

Back to topic - - oil pressure Kad 300 .
It’s to do with low rpm , leading to knack all oil pressure for prolonged periods that one end ( fwd end due to boat pitch or instal tilt ) of the rockers and associated valve gear not getting enough lubrication.

Read the manual run it as VP intended then low oil pressure or valve head starvation is a none issue .

Buy a boat that fits the intended use .
A nice Dutch river boat with 40/50 Hp Vetus type diesels will sit happily at river or fishing speeds all day .
Kad 300,s were not designed for this activity.
