This is the sheet winch on my Albin Vega.

I see that to service it you need to remove the small grub screw, then place some kind of tool in the two holes to twist off the cap. The barrel could then be lifted off.

Any idea where I could find the required tool to remove the cap, or indeed bodge something up to do the job?

Thanks

Hopefully, someone reading your post will have similar winches and a tool. Other than that you could try putting the end of a screwdriver in the hold and tapping it round.

Yes, a pin spanner is the correct tool, make sure you get one with the correct diameter pins and centre distance between - or an adjustable one - £2 - £3 on ebay.

Great thanks, I had an idea these things existed but no idea where to start looking.

If this fails I'll go for the bolts in a bit of wood approach!

The easiest approach is two round metal pins that fit closely into the holes and then use a flat-bar (or something else that is strong) between the pins and use that as a lever to turn the cap.
A cheap source for pins is to take two wood-screws of a suitable gauge and cut off the part with the threads, leaving the plain cylindrical shank that is below the head.

See my next posting.
