Any advice on anchoring here over Friday night (NE 5-6)? 2m draft AWB. Alternative is Porth Curno, which I've used before.

Hard sandy bottom I would say the only likely problem is if there is any residual swell which can be significant. On the plus side you would be close to the lifeboat station if it goes tits up.:D

Hard sand close in, well not that hard, managed to bog down a 110 country land Rover but I do remember loose large rock boulders further out off the end of the slipway and harbour wall.

Thanks all. Will give it a go, swell is from the east so hopefully not too big an issue. Maybe not so close to the LB when I drag at 4am :/

Magic Seaweed is forecasting 6-9ft swell for Friday night/Saturday morning.

May not be too restful at anchor.
Just checked Magic Seaweed again. Seems like I was looking at next weekend. This weekend looks more do-able, but it may still be lumpy. Good luck with it, and have a Plan B!

Plan B in this case might be 'run to Scilly'. If the wind comes in East enough then katabatic wind would give a cracking reach to Padstow under the land.

Not great. Very rolly despite everything coming from the NE so we gritted our teeth and made straight for Milford on a tight fetch. Another boat arrived as we passed the Brisons and seemed to be making a go of anchoring - rather them than me. Not recommended.

Thanks, that's very interesting. Sennen picks up most Atlantic swells so it would be quite unusual to get a quiet night at anchor there. Sounds like your Plan B was a bit of an endurance feat.

I was looking out for an RNLI news report, it's a wild bit of coastline. It might be tenable for a keel yacht as an anchorage for a handful of days a year.

Luke Powell came across the pond and anchored there in one of his pilot cutters, he ended up on the beach. Lifeboat got him off, and, as he said, in the end the boat didn't break so result. It's a bit like Mullion, looks like good shelter, but easy to get caught there. (any but due E-NE)
