The tilt indicator of my Port drive tilt has failed. The drive tilts ok but the only reading is -9. Does anyone know what this is telling me?
Probably the teeth were full of worm and the plastic rack has snapped or the wheel , it’s no big deal an easy fixThe tilt indicator of my Port drive tilt has failed. The drive tilts ok but the only reading is -9. Does anyone know what this is telling me?
Either
1. Drive has been off and the potentiometer wheel that engages with the curved rack on top of the helmet has turned - needs to be reset (see the drive manual)if you have not buggered the pot.
2. Potentiometer is bust - bad news, its costly and vv difficult to get at.

Yes Thank you to all replies. Boat on the dry and both drives o/hauled , anti fouled and re-attached to the hull. The rack is intact and was correctly engaged to the wheel. Swopping the clocks has confirmed they are ok. Trying the stb. clock to the port elec. feed shows -9 and confirms it is a problem somewhere between clock and potentiometer. I have purchased a new pot. and connected to cable. Clock still reads -9 wherever I rotate the pot. drive. Connections checked with meter both ends and ok. Only thing I have not checked is for cable failure somewhere between pot and clock. Will do this today. Cheers. If the potentiometer is knackered....about half the Volvo price.

you get to the sender (Part 22) inside the boat. I had the same issue. Removed the sender and moved the potentiometer manually but nothing happened on the gauge so bought a new one. Read the workshop manual on replacing as you have to line up little dots when replacing it.
if it’s the drive cog or rack....it’s an out of the water job
Be super carefully until it’s fixed. Where the drive thinks it’s down, you could trim the drive up into the “Beach” mode zone. Usually you have to hold down the red button but that safety feature won’t work currently. If you trim too high with the engine running.....bye bye UJ!
